Former Indian Test opener and coach Lalchand Rajput’s prediction that batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar will score loads of runs in the on-going Test series against Australia has come true with the little master getting his 40th Test century at Nagpur on Thursday.
"Sachin planned his practice sessions meticulously even before the Aussies landed in India. Even when he was recovering from the elbow injury, he was doing light exercises. Later his training schedule was pretty intense and he was totally focused during those sessions," Rajput told Cricketnext.com on Friday.
"Dividing his time between National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) Indoor Cricket Academy at the Bandra Kurla Complex, Sachin would be seen practicing for six hours everyday.
"He would come to the ground around seven in the morning and start batting in the indoor stadium then around 11-00 A M he would move outdoors for the second session. With sweat dripping down his body he would do rigorous strength training too," Rajput added.
"Apart from this he would carefully go through the way Aussies laid out plans to trap our batsmen with juicy teasers bowled wide outside the off stump in 2004.
"He tried to think like the Aussies and practiced how not to touch an outgoing delivery. One could see the outcome of all his efforts when he left the deliveries outside the off stump in the recent series," Rajput observed.
"The way he is playing now only suggests that he has no plans for immediate retirement and I will not be surprised if his run-scoring streak continues for the next couple of years," he added.
Rajput had predicted a 2-0 win for India and that Tendulkar and Laxman were the men to watch when this correspondent had asked for his views before the series began.
