England were playing their 50th Test on Indian soil. They thus became the first visiting side to appear in 50 Tests in India. Australia and West Indies come second with 40 Tests apiece.
- Graeme Swann became the 641st player to appear in a Test match for England.
- Tendulkar on Thursday became the longest serving player in Indian Test history, moving ahead of Lala Amarnath who played Test cricket for exactly 19 years. Tendulkar has now played Test cricket for 19 years and 26 days.

- Andrew Strauss (123) scored his second hundred against India (his 13th in Test cricket). He had made 128 at Mumbai in 2005-06.
- Interestingly England have never lost a Test in which Strauss has scored a hundred. Of the previous 12 such occasions, England won eight and drew four.
- During his innings Strauss became the 100th batsman in Test cricket history to aggregate 4,000 runs in a Test career. He is the 27th batsman from England to accomplish the feat.
- Harbhajan –with his two wickets has taken his tally of wickets to 57 this year. Only South Africa's Dale Steyn has taken more wickets (60) than him.
