IPL 2010 : Mumbai Indians! Duniya Hilla Denge!

Everyone would agree that everytime a new wax figure at Madame Tussauds is unveiled, it makes for more than just a great photo opportunity. And as someone who actually gets to see each of these figures much before the world gets to see them, Liz Edwards is in an envious position.
"Each wax figure takes around three to fourmonths to complete. And this is after we have had a sitting with the celebrity in question - where we measure each and every inch - including the length of the ear," laughs Edwards, the spokesperson for Madame Tussauds London, which has interestingly brought down the wax figure of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar for its unveiling today. "It's the first time ever that we are launching the figure outside of Madame Tussauds. But I guess a person such as Sachin Tendulkar demands such a treatment; he's hugely popular not only in India but even in London. In fact, last year when we approached him for the sitting, he gave us two hours out of his busy schedule to pose for us from every possible angle and what's more, he has even donated the helmet, the bat and the cricket whites for the figure," reveals Edwards adding that the wax figure will be accompanied by a audio-visual game at Madame Tussauds. And given that Sachin will be the seventh Indian personality to make it to Madame Tussauds (the first one being Amitabh Bachchan), does it speak of the growing appeal of our Indian stars? "Yes of course. At Madame Tussauds, we have celebs who have global appeal," she replies. Does this mean that we will soon see the stars of Slumdog Millionaire at Madame Tussauds since it was a British production?

"To be honest, we don't have any such plans. And while the movie sure is a good one, we look at established stars with a vast body of work and their sustainability before approachingthem," says Edwards matter-of-factly.

So, who is the most popular celebrity at Madame Tussauds? "It varies from Barack Obama and the Queen to Princess Diana and Lewis Hamilton. But amongst the Indian celebrities, it would have to be Saman Khan for sure," she ends.
