Recently, Shiv Sena once again accused Sachin Tendulkar that he didn't promote even a single Maharashtrian in Indian cricket team, whereas Sunil Gavaskar, while captaining the Indian team, filled mostly Maharashtrians. In a way, Shiv Sena was castigating Gavaskar as a regionalist and Sachin a true nationalist. One doesn't understand why Shiv Sena is damaging itself with such ill-thought out statements. They know pretty well that no accusation against Sachin will stand, as Sachin is silently engaged in building up his image and position, not only as an Indian icon but an international figure in cricket history. It is high time Shiv Sena stops playing the regional card, as the people of India now understand very well its dangerous ploy. It is a sad commentary on the part of the Congress-NCP led Maharashtra State government which proved highly weak-kneed in tackling the entire episode. The attack on IBN-Lokmat was highly deplorable.
