A batsman is judge on the basis of his contribution to the team, and how often he can come up with significant contributions.
So here's a simple statistical analysis for those who thought that Sachin was the best batsman in the world ...............but is no longer the same.
I would say ...........he is getting better ..............just that the ferocious pulls and hooks have given way to elegant drives and classic placement . Resulting in lesser number of dot balls and a higher rate of important contribution.
The method adopted is simple to understand, a score of 50+ is considered to be a good contribution to the team ...................specially when sachin scores it coz the SR is reasonably good.
Hence i have considered the 50+ scores at different stages of his career along with the no.of innings (leaving the not out innings ) just the way its done in average to calculate the Contribution Frequency
Here's the stats...
Duration--------------50+ scores----------Innings----------------Contribution Frequency
89-93----------------------12------------------ 54--------------------------22%
94-97----------------------36-------------------97--------------------------37%
98-01----------------------36-------------------96--------------------------37%
02-05----------------------25--------------------69-------------------------36%
06-08-----------------------22-------------------53--------------------------41%
Hence the significant contribution frequency goes even higher than ever before, despite of the fact that its not assisted by an abnormally high number of not out as it happens in the case of most lower middle order batsmen .
Therefore if anyone tells you that Sachin is past his prime .........forgive their ignorance
