It may have been raining cats and dogs on Tuesday morning, but that didn’t stop Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar from keeping his word.
India’s cricket legend was the chief guest at HR college to launch, along with Sheriff of Mumbai Dr Indu Shahani, a women’s resource directory with information on 75 NGOs in Mumbai that work primarily with women, children and senior citizens.
Sachin was there on time, accompanied by his wife Anjali. He spoke about the cause of women being an issue extremely close to his heart; he also mentioned how important a role his mother played in his own life. And that the cricketer has a genuine respect for women was seen when he discreetly told his bodyguard to go stand next to his wife Anjali because the paparazzi were getting a bit out of hand. Now that’s a true gentleman.
Shweta Mangal, whose brainchild this initiative was, spoke about these core issues as well. The students, of course, couldn’t get enough of their cricket icon, and although they weren’t allowed to ask Sachin any questions pertaining to cricket, they still chanted out his name, just as crowds do in a cricket stadium!
