Sachin Tendulkar has joined forces with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to get children wash their hands for better health and hygiene as part of the first Global Handwashing Day on October 15.
The master blaster is featured in a public service announcement, which will come up soon on television in 14 languages to garner support for the campaign targeting students in more than six million schools across the country, a UNICEF release said today.
“I wanted to be a part of this campaign, because washing hands with soap can keep children safe and healthy and protect them against deadly diseases,” Tendulkar, father of two, said.
The campaign in India is a part of a global movement uniting millions of children in 52 countries across five continents on the occasion of the International Year of Sanitation 2008.
