Sach is life and entire Indian media has come stand still to celebrate master class from genius Sachin Tendulkar. Don't bother; I am not going to write about what he has achieved, how many records he has broken or whether he still comes in the dream of spin wizard Shane Warne. All the readers would know these statistics and trivia better than me. Take a bow…master…
Hey Master….Can you grant me a wish as we consider you sporting icon and god in the country. I hope you will not deny it because you are an amazing human being. So here goes my wishes. Can you bless my state to have a sporting culture? Can you create passion in young kids from Orissa to become better sportsmen?
We don't have dearth of talents in Orissa. From Dilip Tirkey to Budhia; we got abundance of talent. Then; what is this fuss all about. Parents feel their child would make a better engineer (Basically sophisticated robot in a software company). Government feels; Tirkeys would be churned out automatically without having proper systems. Society feels sports person is good for nothing hence not suitable in a marriage market. Self proclaimed sports person himself feels; there is no competition so he is
the best.
This is a vicious circle. How do we address such issues? I remember in my college days; we had some fantastic cricketers. Many of them were even part of India under nineteen. Somehow; they couldn't make the grade to become part of international sides. It is easier said than done. Even I don't have answers. But I have got some questions which may help us to find some answer.
Do we have a database of sports people in the state? Does our sports minister knows; who are the future sports talent? What is the process to identify talent? Do we have a pool of talent from across the state rather than only from major cities? What is the awareness about sports in the state? At last but not the least; Do we have a compelling sports vision in place? I hope some of the questions would be having answers already. The questions which we don't have any answer; need to be answered sooner than later. I dread the day; when we would be surrounded with human robots rather than human beings.
This reminds me the calling of Madhu Babu "Wake up…Wake up my pride of Orissa". Rome was not built in a day. I understand; this process of transformation is not that easy. We have to start from somewhere. Let's contribute one stone each to built a Konark temple again.
"Jaati Nandighosha Chalibaki Bhai; Swarthaku Sarathi kale"…………Let's start
the journey of a sporting nation; where in we creates Sachins, Bubkas, Federers, Peles of the world with ease.
