As a chorus for conferring Bharat Ratna to Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar reached a crescendo, the cricketer's former teammate and captain Sourav Ganguly joined the bandwagon.
"A Bharat Ratna should only be conferred to Bharat Ratna," said Sourav Ganguly in Kolkata.
Earlier politicians cutting across party line supported the demand for Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of India, to Sachin Tendulkar.
"This is not a political issue. He should be given Bharat Ratna. I hope the government will think and decide," said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M. Venkaiah Naidu.
Congress leader and Union Human Resource Development (HRD Kapil Sibal said Sachin perhaps deserves more than Bharat Ratna.
"Whatever is given to him is not enough," he said strongly supporting conferment of the award to Sachin.
Rahul Bajaj, Chairman of Bajaj Auto Limited and a Rajya Sabha member, said: "I hope all in India will be happy if he is conferred the Bharat Ratna."
